Argyll & Bute Psychological Service

Tommy MacKay maintains his practice in the full range of routine educational and child psychology work through a contract with Argyll & Bute Psychological Service, one of the country’s most forward-looking educational psychology services.

The psychological service vision is to promote the wellbeing and development of all children and young people using the knowledge and evidence base of child psychology. It does this not only through carrying out the normal functions of consultation, assessment, intervention, training and research, particularly in relation to children and young people with additional support needs, but also through innovative programmes designed for the benefit of the whole population of children and young people. These include initiatives in such areas as applying cognitive behavioural approaches to building resilience and good mental health and using health psychology approaches to promote physical health and wellbeing.
